Accounting and Managing Numbers
The course takes the student to a new level in understanding the language of numbers as part of the hospitality business.
In this course, the participant will learn the basic concepts related to financial and management accounting. The participant will be introduced to the basic cost concepts and cost volume profit analysis. Different pricing methods are also discussed.
The participants are expected to watch all the video content under each module, acquaint themselves with additional materials provided, and then take the quizzes. The quizzes can be taken 3 times and we recommend that participants watch the videos and practise until they feel they master the topic.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the participant:
- is familiar with the basic accounting concepts
- understands the importance of accounting in the hospitality industry
- has the basic knowledge of cost volume profit analysis and its applications
- identifies different pricing methods and can apply the cost-based pricing method in real-life situations

This is an introductory course to understanding accounting and making numbers work for you in the hospitality and service business. This course is targeted to 1st-year hospitality university students, people entering the global hospitality industry, and people already working in the service or hospitality sector, wanting to broaden their skills in understanding numbers. Furthermore, this course is targeted at new entrepreneurs in the service sector.

Hanna Moisio
Hanna Moisio is a Certified Hospitality Educator and Senior lecturer and works as a senior lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences – on its hospitality campus. Hanna has extensive experience in accounting and teaching. Prior to her lecturing at Haaga-Helia, she worked in the auditing business gaining an understanding of a variety of service industries. She is also a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE®).
